The title might confuse you. How can a stairway take us to heaven? But believe me on seeing pictures below you will trust me. These heavenly stair cases in San Francisco are really awesome.
We all know that San Francisco in California is popular for a lot of things like the home of Federation Headquarters and the Star fleet Academy, as well as the dot com revolution, but it is also famous for having some of the most amazing artwork in the country, and this mosaic staircase really is a master piece.
You must remember doing mosaics as a child. But here is a piece of art that really is not a childish thing to do and is permanently on display for everyone to see. I suggest you to visit the corner of 16th and Moraga and giving pleasure to your eyes on the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps if you ever get a chance to go to San Francisco.
Here you will also get some spectacular views of the Golden Gate City and the most exciting of all will be seeing a beautiful mosaic that has 163 steps. The thing which makes this stair case beautiful is that the steps include more than 2,000 handmade tiles and 75,000 fragments of stained glass, mirrors, and tiles.
Each single piece in the stair case has details on it. It creates a beautiful story with water, flowers, plants, frogs, and birds when we look at it from a distance. You feel like heaven because at the very top is a beautiful sun. Everything is related to nature.
This art piece is created by mosaic artist Colette Crutcher and Irish ceramist Aileen Barr. They completed it with the help of hundreds of volunteers from the community in two and a half years and unveiled it in 2005. A similar step in Rio De Janeiro Brazil is the inspiration of this stair case.
