Talkspace and the Winter Months

Talkspace

What is Talkspace?

Talkspace is a resource for locating therapy online. With this convenient app, you can get the therapy you need without ever having to go to an office. Not only that, you can get your therapy for much less than you would pay at a standard therapist’s office. For example, a teenager can vent to a licensed counselor without the judgment that they would typically fear, allowing them to talk about subjects that they would not be comfortable speaking to their parents about. The Talkspace reviews show just how much the app has helped people.

Talkspace and Winter Depression

The holidays can definitely be difficult for some people. This is often referred to as “The Winter Blues.” If you suffer from depression or find that the winter months are especially difficult for you, then you should make sure to take precautions so that things don’t get too bad. But what can you do to avoid that winter depression?

How About Light Therapy?

Some researchers believe that winter and holiday-related depression are directly related to the lack of sunlight that you get during the winter months. Everybody huddles inside away from the elements and cold of the winter. In order to get around this deficit, you can actually purchase a special lamp. That’s right, these issues can be greatly alleviated by simply using a lamp that gives off light that shares qualities with sunlight. Even if it isn’t the winter, you can bring it into your dark and depressing office to brighten it up and give you some much-needed cheer.

Look Ahead

One of the best things that you can do to overcome the effects of winter depression is to have something to look forward to. Having a plan and a goal can greatly lift your spirits. It could be something as small and simple as lunch at your favorite restaurant or even something as big as buying a new car or going on vacation. Even when there is an ice storm outside and you are stuck at home, you can motivate yourself and get a more positive attitude by simply having an achievable goal set for yourself.

You Knew I Was Going to Say It, Exercise.

It has been no for quite a long time that exercise is a great way to combat depression. If you are someone that works outside on a regular basis, then the winter months can definitely be detrimental to your mood. There are very few people in this world that would want to go for a run when it is below zero outside, so what can you do? It would be best to find some workout routine that you can do inside. It is best to find something that you enjoy rather than just running on a treadmill.

Take a Vacation

We already mentioned planning for a vacation to help your mood, but actually taking one will greatly benefit your emotional state. If you hate the cold of winter you can plan a trip to somewhere a bit sunnier. For me, I don’t get a lot of snow where I live, so I like to take my children up north so they can get a taste of a winter wonderland. It doesn’t have to be expensive, either. All you have to do is get out of the house and do something enjoyable that you otherwise would not normally do.

Talk to a Therapist

If nothing seems to help and you can’t quite get out from under that cloud that is raining on you, then you can always talk to a therapist. All it takes is having someone to talk to. A therapist will help you in figuring out exactly what the underlying causes of your depression are, as well as help you to think of different ways to overcome the effects of that depression. If you don’t have a therapist, then check out the Talkspace reviews and see if it is right for you.
